Bears Keep a Watchful Eye on White House Race
Some Bears players are actually keeping a watchful eye on the presidential elections, which happened last Tuesday. Dusty Dvoracek, for one, admitted he had been following the White House race more than he had ever before. He is eagerly anticipating who would turn out as the winner at the polls, whether it’s Barack Obama or Hilary Clinton.
Fred Miller, the Bears’ right tackle, said he has always been interested in politics. He said he cared about what was happening in the country and about the many issues that Americans face. He was surprised at the turnout that Rudy Giuliani did not do well among the Republicans. And like Dvoracek, he believes that Obama and Clinton would be in a close battle for the presidency.
When asked about what issues they consider during elections, Bears cornerback Charles Tillman immediately replied that he is concerned with taxes. He said he is on the lookout for a candidate who would handle tax money properly. He is also particularly interested in health care. Tillman does not really consider what party the candidate is affiliated with, but he casts his vote according to how the candidates address these issues.
So who do the Bears think will make a good president from the team? A handful of them named Hillenmeyer, who laughed when he heard it. He in turn named Dez Clark, who he describes as someone who is not easily swayed but knows what he believes in.
