Chicago Bears Review

Quarterback Brian Griese to leave Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears have decided to trade their quarterback player Brian Griese instead of just releasing him. An NFL source was qouted to have told Tribune that the Bears do not just want to lose their player for two seasons with 10 years experience. The bears had announced earlier last week that Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman would compete for the quarterback’s position once the training camp opens. They are still intending to draft in another young quarterback to play reserves. It was thus expected that Griese would have to try out with another team under free agency when his contract expires. However if there are no offers for the quarterback by Tuesday, he would be due for a roster bonus of $300,000 and would have to be released to free agency.

Griese is just 33 years and has been with the Chicago Bears for about 2 seasons, starting part of 2007 season with them after Grossman the former quarterback had struggled in the first 3 games. Grossman however got a new one year deal recently and even Orton got an extension on his contract up till 2009. No word was said about Brian’s fate in the team and it became plain that Grossman and Orton were favored. Griese Brian was a quarterback with Michigan in the 1998 Rose Bowl event. He also has featured for Miami, Denver and then Tampa Bay before finally moving over to join the Bears. His father is QB Bob Griese, a professional footballer in the Hall of Fame.
